What really sets it appart from other performance cars is not the body, but what is under the hood. Like it's predecessor, the RX-7, the Mazda RX-8 is just about the only modern car to sport a rotary engine... and a measley 1.3 L one at that! But don't worry, a rotary engine is not the same as your typical cylinder engine, and the RX-8's engine is certainly spritely enough.
A high powered torque beast, however, the RX8 is not, and you'll definetley have to work that gearbox to get the performance out of that rotary engine. With a ceiling of 9,000 RPMs though, that won't be too hard, and with it's exceptional handling the RX8 is certainly a fun car to drive.
Those looking for a sports/performance car which can also provide plenty of seating and enough creature comforts to be great for an everday drive, should definetley check out the RX-8. However, be warned, it's rotary engine is not very fuel efficent and also (like all rotaries) burns through the oil.
So if you're after an exotic drive, great looks and great handling, then you should definetley consider Mazda's RX-8. That said, the RX-8 is definetley an exception to the rule, so for all its great features, there are also some serious "quirks".
